Dr. Poma enjoys working with fellow veterans and often-underserved military families. If you’re an active-duty service member, or a veteran, or the family member of one of the above, you are dealing with unique challenges. First, you have a profession that always has built in danger, that may require you to sacrifice your life. Your family lives with that danger daily. You are more likely to experience trauma. Your family has unique stressors due to your absence, but has pride in your service. Do you find yourself worrying about how your family is coping during deployment? Are you looking for a provider who can see you and your spouse while he’s on assignment across the country or overseas? Are you seeking someone who is a fellow veteran that understands what PCS, TDY, and deployments are when trying to understand your current situation to talk to about these stressors? Is military life taking a particular toll on your relationships at home?

Working with Dr. Poma can help you restore some balance in your relationship. She can help you make a plan for how to cope with those unique military stressors, guide you in speaking with your children about difficult topics, and encourage strategies for staying connected as a family even when your service-member is absent.

As a veteran, married to a veteran, Dr. Poma can understand these stressors. Dr. Poma started out working for the Army as a mental health specialist. Dr. Poma has expertise dealing with military trauma and experience helping military families to cope with the pressures of deployment and redeployment.
